29 Jul Name our Devil Joeys
Aussie Ark Wildlife Ranger, Adam Mowbray, is celebrating World Wildlife Ranger Day 2024, by embarking on a wondrous journey to hand-raise two Devil joeys!
A dream come true for Mr Mowbray, this is his first time hand-raising Tasmanian Devils; and, at just 4 months old and weighing only 330 grams, its a huge responsibility!
Fragile, vulnerable and requiring round-the-clock parenting care, the brother-sister Devils were taken into care when staff discovered their mother had cannibalised two of her four joeys.
While hard for humans to comprehend, this behaviour is a common survival strategy of wild Devils. However, in a carefully managed conservation breeding program, safeguarding each and every individual is vital. So we made the call to intervene and remove the surviving siblings for their safety.
This pair needs names!
Aussie Ark invites the public to watch the video, make a donation or adopt a devil, and register their suggested names. Whoever’s suggested names are selected will be invited to attend a Devil wild release!
You can make a tangible impact and help raise this pair to adulthood by:
Naming our Devils: Any person or organisation that makes a tax deductible donation, can suggest names for both joeys and submit your name into a draw to attend a wild release event. Your donation not only evidences your commitment to wildlife species conservation, it gives you a chance to witness firsthand, the impact of your support.
Donating now: Every contribution, regardless of size, directly supports our conservation efforts. Your generosity will help cover the costs of nurturing these devil joeys and preparing them for their eventual release into the wild.
Digitally adopting: Your symbolic Tasmanian Devil adoption will directly contribute to the care of these hand raised devil joeys, their fellow Devils in our breeding program, as well as funding our broader mission of protect Australia’s unique wildlife.
Simply donate or adopt a devil today, then go name the devils, to become an integral part of Aussie Ark’s endangered wildlife and habitat conservation effort. Together, we can secure a brighter future for threatened Tasmanian Devils. Together, we can make a difference.
